The Patrick Healy Fellowship
Purusing the Jesuit Ideal
Our Mission
We pursue the Jesuit ideal of being men and women for others. To that end, the fellowship provides a group of undergraduate students (juniors and seniors) at Georgetown with the opportunity to enhance their own leadership ability through fellowship and the mentorship of program alumni. The students also participate in various programs focused on making Georgetown’s campus a more diverse institution.
Applicants are second-semester sophomores in good standing who have a cumulative G.P.A. of above 3.0.
Four primary qualifications determine acceptance: (1) academic achievement; (2) community service experience; (3) leadership qualities and (4) demonstrated interest in issues of concern to people of color.
Once selected, Fellows pursue our ideals through the following forms:
Fellowship
● The Fellows experience fellowship with each other through weekly meetings, and program events, such as the annual PHF New York Retreat;
Mentorship
● The Fellows are assigned mentors who are Georgetown alumni, typically alums of PHF and members of PHF’s Board, who provide them with career and personal guidance;
Community Service
● The Fellows provide mentorship to Washington D.C.-area schoolchildren, through their work in organizing the Kids to College Program at Georgetown in conjunction with Georgetown’s Center for Minority Educational Affairs, and through other programs;
Education
● The Fellows receive extra-educational opportunities,typically focused on issues affecting people of color through lectures provided by Georgetown faculty and administrators;
Programming
● The Fellows organize programs on campus focused on diversity issues, such as coordinating career orientation events with alumni of color, screening films focused on issues of race and identity, or by helping to organize Hoya Saxa Weekend for prospective students of color;
Alumni Development
● The Fellows receive financial assistance in order to assist them in organizing events and programs to make Georgetown a more diverse educational institution.
